Celebrate Octberfest 2015: Must-have Apps for Beer Lovers
And of course, if you decide that you have an absolutely awesome app that hasn’t found its way to this list, make sure to let us know in the comments.
Untappd – Discover Beer
Any list worth reading should have Untappd firmly at the top. It boasts a wonderful interface and fully integrates a social aspect too. The main idea is that you can rate the beer you are drinking, the brewery it comes from and earn badges and rewards in the process. If you just purchased a pint of local brew, and you despised it, simply give it a rating and share with your friends so they know to avoid it (and so you remember you really don’t want to try it again!)
BJCP 2015 Beer Styles
You’re celebrating Oktoberfest in style, you’ve got this beer, very naturally might I add, passing down your throat and your friend is asking you how it is. Your mind has gone blank and you reply with ‘nice’. Luckily this app provides you with a huge array of descriptions. Originally it was made to help beer judges, now everyone can enjoy extremely detailed information about beer. You can learn to describe the aroma, the ingredients, how it feels as it passes your lips, practically everything. A great addition to any beer related portfolio.

Happy Hours
Happy Hours doesn’t just help you celebrate Oktoberfest, but gives you a helping hand for every weekend you and your friends are out for a drink, especially if you’re on holiday somewhere. You can find out where all the places near you are holding the elusive happy hour, or you can search for specific locations if you’re trying to plan more in advance. It also features in-app messaging so you and your friends all stay informed to where the nights antics will begin…or end.
RateBeer
Now while Untappd focuses on the social aspect of drinking, RateBeer is primarily just as the name suggests. You simply open the app, and if that beer your best mate is recommending suffers from a low rating, you can politely avoid it with the help of other peoples opinions. It is no more complicated than that. It only exists to give you an overall rating of any kind of beer, and it does it very well too.
Beer Pong Tricks
By now you could have an app to rate your beer, describe it, and discover great places to drink it cheap. So what else could you need? Sometimes it’s best to just turn your brain off and have some fun, so Beer Pong Tricks is the perfect way to end this list. It boasts over 230 levels for you to practice your trick shots and to pass the time without you realizing. The aim of beer pong is to bounce a ping pong ball into a cup of beer. If you do, then traditionally your opponent drinks some beer. It’s loads of fun and you can practice before you challenge your friends at the weekend.
If after seeing Beer Pong Tricks, your fingers are twitching for some fantastic games to enjoy, perhaps less beer related, then make sure to check out the best games of last month here!
