How to Upgrade the Operating System on your Android Tablet or Mobile
To always get the most your Android device, you need to ensure it is running on the latest software update available on the market. With each upgrade your smartphone or tablet will increase the number of features and become compatible with more Android apps and games.
Usually, your device will notify you if a system upgrade is available but it is also possible to perform the updates manually whenever needed. In this short tutorial we will explain, step-by-step, how to carry out these updates:
1. Firstly, check you have a strong Wi-Fi connection. A week connection can cause for the update to fail or last for ages while updating the OS via 3G or 4G networks is likely to consume all your data.
2. Before you start, make a backup of important files, to avoid losses during the upgrade. Normally, the upgrade should not affect saved files but nothing is guaranteed.
3. Access the menu of the mobile or tablet and choose Settings.
4. Click on “About phone” or “About Tablet”. For devices with tabbed Settings menu, these options will appear in the ‘General’ section.
5. From the options available select the option “Software Updates” which should also display the current OS your device is running on.
6. The device will automatically search for the latest updates but if the page redirects you to another menu, click “Check for Software Updates”.
7. If a new update is available simply select “yes” and it will be downloaded and installed on your Smartphone or Tablet.
Before you start using the new operating system Android, you will need to restart the device.
