5 Best Apps That Use Augmented Reality Like Pokémon Go!
Augmented reality has been around for quite some time now although it wasn’t really until Pokemon Go took over the world that a lot of people really started to pay it attention. The benefit, of course, is that there are already some fantastic AR (Augmented Reality) apps out there for you to enjoy.
Take a look at the list below to discover 5 great augmented reality apps and if apps don’t tickle your fancy then check back tomorrow for 5 great games that use augmented reality. Either way, you should add a couple of apps to your device and make the most of the AR.
Barcode Scanner
The trusty ol’ Barcode Scanner app has been around for years and while it’s function is basic, it’s also very handy to have. With it, you can scan barcodes of items in the real world and your device will show you a whole wealth of information. It can also scan QR codes as well as a few other nifty things. This is great if you’re shopping around for something as you can simply scan the barcode and find it at the cheapest price.
Google Goggles
Google Goggles was one of the first apps to take advantage of AR. It’s an app which focuses on the productivity of life and as such you can use it to scan and analyze certain landmarks or statues and find all of the necessary information about them. You can also use it to instantly translate text by pointing your camera at it. Useful, productive and educational all in one handy app.
Zombies, Run! (Free)
Now I wasn’t sure whether to sneak this into this list or wait until tomorrow for the games article, however, after much deliberation, I decided that no matter how fun it is, I can’t class it as a game but it makes for an exceptional work out app. The premise is simple. You put in your headphones and start the app on your Android smartphone. You then start jogging. If you’re not all that motivated when running, throw in some rampant zombies that are chasing you and I’m sure you’ll pick up the pace. A wonderful app that makes working on your fitness much more enjoyable.
IKEA Catalog
If you’re surprised that IKEA features as an augmented reality app then join the club. It is one part catalog and one part amazing. By amazing, I mean that you can literally superimpose items from their catalog into the rooms of your house so you can see what it’ll look like. You won’t use this app every single day but for those moments you’re looking for furniture it’s definitely worth the download.
Star Walk 2 Free
Lastly on our list is Star Walk 2. This is perfect for anybody who enjoys looking at the stars and constellations that make up our night sky. All you need to do is install the app, point your device t the sky and see everything in all of its beauty. It’s great for educational purposes too if you want to learn about astronomy.
