Social media has well and truly become a huge entity in our everyday lives. It’s hard to believe that less than 10 years ago, Facebook was a sleeping giant that hadn’t yet consumed the world. Instagram didn’t exist and people would use their phones actual text features to talk to each other.
Yet today, people are constantly updating their lives and staying connected. Instagram is one of the major players, with over 500 MILLION users. The number is quite staggering, but in the dawn of social media also comes the controversy of confidentiality and privacy intrusion, which can lead to many people deciding to delete their accounts.
Whatever your reasons might be, if you want to delete your Instagram account then look no further. Now you can either delete your account permanently, which will mean you will lose every shred of data you’ve ever shared…so now might be the time to back up any and all photos you want to save because they will be gone…forever.
The second option is a temporary delete. This temporary delete options allows you to keep all of your data but your account will be hidden from the eyes of the world.
** If you haven’t saved any photos to your device or computer then do so now as there is no going back**
Permanently Delete Your Account
If you’ve weighed up your options and decided you won’t ever want to use your account again, and you don’t care that you’ll lose everything, then the permanent delete is your weapon of choice.
- Go to Instagram’s “Delete Your Account” page and sign in if you aren’t already. You can’t access this from within the app so you’ll have to open it in a browser.
- From the drop down list, select your reason for wanting to delete your account.
- You’ll be asked to re-enter your password, so do this and then tap/click on “Permanently Delete my Account”.
- You are no longer a user of Instagram.
Not too difficult at all. Now, you might just want to take a break from the world of Instagram in which case you’ll want to temporarily delete your account.
Temporary Delete
It’s just as easy to temporarily suspend your account as it is to delete it permanently. All it takes is four steps.
- Go to Instagram’s official website and sign in (Again, you can’t do this from the app).
- Tap on the icon for your profile in the top-right hand corner and click “Edit Profile”.
- Select the “Temporarily Disable My Account” option and explain why you want to leave the app for a while.
- Enter your password one more time and tap the button to disable your account. Voila. You are now living in limbo.
There you have it. Either option is easy to do however the permanent delete is quite extreme. It isn’t reversible and if you ever decide to go back to Instagram you’ll never be able to use the same username.
