Create and Manage Restricted Groups in WhatsApp
Up until now, WhatsApp groups were a bit of a free-for-all. Members could do all sorts of naughty stuff. Everything from changing the name of the group or the profile photo to spamming everyone in the group with unwanted messages.
I’m here to announce that this is officially over.
The admin of any WhatsApp group can now get medieval on the group’s members. Ok, well, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit. However, make no mistake about it, the admins of WhatsApp groups are now going to be able to exercise greater control over the groups they manage.
So, what exactly are the WhatsApp admins going to be able to do? Two things:
- Stop members from doing all the stuff they were doing before. If an admin wants, he(or she!) can now prevent members from changing the group’s name, profile photo, description etc.
- Prevent anyone other than the admins from sending messages to the group. No more spamming. Yay! Members will be able to read the messages, but not reply.
Let’s see how to do it:
How to prevent WhatsApp group members from changing the group’s info:
- Tap on the name of the group.
- Tap on Group settings.
- Tap on Edit group info.
- Select Only admins and then OK.
How to prevent WhatsApp group members from sending messages to the group:
- Tap on the name of the group.
- Tap on Group settings.
- Tap on Send messages.
- Select Only admins and then OK.
That’s it! Use your new power wisely!
If you’re one of the few who has never tried WhatsApp (wow, seriously?) you can download it here for free:
