How To Hide Your Activity Status On Instagram
A recent update on Instagram introduced in the direct messaging (DM) section of Instagram something that we’re all familiar with on Facebook Messenger a ¨monitoring¨ like tool that gives information on a users status. You’re able to see when a user is online, even when they were last online just by taking a look at their username. Not everybody welcomed the new activity status update on Instagram with a warm welcome. There is however no need to let this put you off the application as we have a solution for you.
We can think of many reasons as to why you would like to deactive it, the main reason being that nobody wants to give the impression that they’re ignoring somebody.
From a business perspective it promotes greater customer service as tracking an Instagram page to see when the business is online may help you focus your concerns with greater timing, allowing them to give you faster responses. If they’ve just recently gone offline then you may decide to wait until the next day to get in touch because you don’t want your messages sinking to the bottom of their ¨Inbox¨or ¨Requests¨folder- making it a much more efficient process. It can be described as a very useful tool helping them to show how much they value clients through their ¨Activity Status¨ – especially if they’re constantly online.
For a regular user of Instagram it may attract uninvited conversation preventing you from catching up with posts that your friends have shared with you earlier in the day. The reason being, if people who have recently messaged you can see that you’re online and you’re unable to reply they will feel ignored, a situation nobody wants to find themselves in.
If you’re not bothered by this new update then you’re free to continue using Instagram in the same way that you’ve been using it. For those of you that like to use Instagram in an incognito way, fear no more because we have the answer.
- Swipe right on your home page and click settings
- Click on ¨Activity Status¨
- You will now have to click the button below that is highlighted
- Now that it is deactivated, you can go back to enjoying your privacy
There is a catch to deactivating, similar to Whatsapp`s read receipts, if you choose not to share your activity status then you can’t see anybody else’s either. If you decide to keep it on, only those in your ¨Messages¨folder will be able to see your activity. What this means is that if you’ve left somebody in the requests folder by not accepting their message, they will have no way to find out they’re being ignored.
It comes down to what your purpose for being on Instagram is. Thankfully users have been given a choice, for those who feel like their privacy has been invaded there is an option to deactivate. If you’re a business that wants to be accessible to their consumers at all times then you may choose to share your ¨Activity Status.¨
The choice is yours, whatever you decide to do, you now know how to deactivate this new feature.
