Facebook Messenger down? Here is How to Fix the Most Common Problems
If you use Facebook frequently, you probably have used Facebook Messenger too. For those who have not, Facebook Messenger is a standalone messenger app created by Facebook. Facebook Messenger can be used to send messages independently from Facebook but is also the official app that handles your messages on Facebook.
While using Facebook Messenger, you might encounter some problems that affect its normal operations. These problems can be very frustrating, and that’s why I am here to help. This piece discusses the common problems that you might encounter while using Facebook Messenger and how to fix them.
You Cannot Receive or Send Messages
You might be sending a message to a person via Facebook Messenger, and the message does not get delivered. This could be because you are not using an updated version of Facebook Messenger. To solve this problem, go to Play Store and install the latest version of the app.
The other reason that you may not receive and send messages is that Facebook Messenger’s servers may be down. If several of your friends complain of the same problem, then there might be problems with the app’s servers. For this problem, you will just have to wait for Facebook Messenger’s technical team to address the issue.
All or Some of Your Messages Have Disappeared
Sometimes you are not able to view some of your chats on Facebook Messenger. This happens when you accidentally delete or archive the chats. If you accidentally delete a chat, you will not be able to retrieve it. However, archived chats can be retrieved by following the following steps:
- Open the Messenger app on your phone
- On the search box on the top of the page, search the name of the contact whose chat has been archived
- The archived contact will appear, and you can view their messages
- To return the contact to the main page, write a new message to that particular contact
Facebook Messenger is Not Working on Android
When using the Facebook Messenger app on Android, you might see the message: “Unfortunately Facebook Messenger has stopped messages,” or you are presented with a blank screen. This might be an indication that the Android version that your device is running on is not be updated to support Facebook Messenger’s operations.
To check if your device is updated: Go to Settings > Navigate to About device> Software update > Update now.
Before updating the software, ensure that your device is connected to Wi-Fi because the updates consume a lot of data.
Finally, uninstall and reinstall the app. Go to Settings > Applications & notifications > See all apps > Messenger > and press Uninstall. Go to Play Store and download it again.
