WhatsApp allows for group chats where you can add other people or be added to various groups where you can all chat simultaneously within the groups. By default, you can add anyone in your contacts to a group or you can be added to groups by other people with your phone number. However, with a few tweaks to WhatsApp’s privacy settings, you can control who can add you to groups.

When you are added to a WhatsApp group, by default, other members of the group can view details about you including your phone number, about, and display picture. For privacy and security reasons, you might be willing to hide your phone number in WhatsApp groups.

Is it possible to hide your phone number in WhatsApp groups? There is no straightforward setting that allows WhatsApp users to hide their phone numbers. However, by altering one of the available privacy settings, you can also hide your phone number. This piece highlights how you can hide your phone number in WhatsApp groups. To hide your phone number in WhatsApp groups:

  • Update your WhatsApp app to the newest version
  • Launch the WhatsApp app by tapping on its icon
  • While on the CHATS tab, tap the three vertical dots located at the top right corner of the screen

  • You will be presented with three options: Everyone, My contacts, and Nobody.

How to Hide your Phone Number in WhatsApp Groups

  • Selecting “Everyone” means that everyone will be able to view your general WhatsApp details which include your phone number.
  •  By choosing “My contacts”, only people in your contact list will be able to view your general WhatsApp details including your phone number
  • If you choose “Nobody”, no one will be able to view general details about you, including your phone number
