How to Stop People from Mentioning you on Instagram
Instagram has a commonly used feature called Mentions. Using this feature, you can associate other users with comments, stories, and captions on Instagram. Mentioning people on Instagram involves including their username in comments, stories, or captions. By default, just like you get notifications for likes on Instagram, you will also get notifications about people that have mentioned you.
Although the mention feature seems like a good way to involve people in related posts, stories, and captions, some people may abuse it and mention you unnecessarily, especially if you are popular on Instagram. You can imagine how annoying it might feel to be mentioned in matters that do not concern you.
Can you stop people from mentioning you on Instagram? Yes, you can! In a bid to curb aimless mentioning, Instagram updated its privacy settings to include some options under Mentions. These options allow you to control who can mention you in comments, stories, and captions.
Unfortunately, you cannot stop an individual from mentioning you on Instagram. Through the Mention privacy setting, you get to choose the people that can mention you. You can choose from Everyone, People you follow, or No one. This piece highlights how you can stop people from mentioning you on Instagram. To stop people from mentioning you on Instagram:
- Update your Instagram app to the latest version
- Launch your Instagram app by tapping on its icon
- Tap the profile icon located at the bottom right side of the launch page
- On the profile page that appears, tap the three horizontal bars located at the top right side of the page
- On the pop-up menu that appears, tap Settings
- Under Settings, find Privacy and tap on it
- While on the Privacy page, tap on mentions
- On the page that appears, choose the best option among the three that appear: Everyone, People you follow, or No one
- The choice you pick will be effected immediately.
