What Are Instagram Highlights and How to Use Them

If you have been using Instagram for some time now, then you must have heard of Instagram Highlights. If not, this piece will enlighten you. What most people are used to on Instagram are Insta Stories that once posted, disappear after 24 hours. What if you wish to showcase some of your best stories forever?

That is where Instagram Highlights come in. Highlights on Instagram is a feature that allows you to showcase some of your favorite Stories permanently on your profile. Stories that have been saved as Highlights will be displayed just below your Bio and your followers, both new and old, can view them. However, you will not get to see how many people have viewed your highlights as is the case in Stories.

You can create many highlights on your profile with each displaying a collection of relating pictures or short videos and rename each highlight with a name of your liking. Highlights are commonly used by business profiles that wish to showcase their products or services; and also, popular profiles that wish to showcase important milestones forever. How to Create Instagram Highlights

To create Instagram highlights from your available Stories is very simple. You will first need to ensure that the archiving feature is on. By default, the archiving feature on Instagram is always on, but to confirm this:

• Navigate to Instagram Settings by tapping the three horizontal bars located at the top right side of your profile page

• While on the Settings page, go to Privacy > Story

• On the page that appears, find Save story to archive and ensure that the toggle button next to it is on

To create a Highlight:

• Post Stories on Instagram as you usually do

• View one story that you wish to add to highlights. At the bottom of the story, tap the Highlight icon

• On the popup that appears, Add a name for the new highlight that you are creating. Tap the Add button when done. The highlight will be created automatically and added to your profile

If you wish to create a highlight from a Story that you posted in the past:

• Navigate to your Instagram profile page

• While on the Highlights section (just below your Bio), tap the New button

• From the Archives page that appears select the Story or Stories that you wish to add to the new Highlight

• Tap the Next button when done

• On the next page that appears, tap Edit cover to change the cover of the Highlight, and give a name to the highlight. When you are done editing, tap the Done button to publish the Highlight
