How to Hide Followers on Instagram

Instagram allows its users to follow other Instagram accounts and be followed by other Instagram accounts. The information about the people that you follow and those that follow you on Instagram is always displayed on your profile page. By default, any Instagram user that can access your profile can view the list of the people you follow and those that follow you.

For privacy reasons, one might want to hide the list of followers and that of those following him/her on Instagram. Unfortunately, Instagram does not have an in-built feature that allows its users to hide their followers from others. However, some workarounds would allow you to hide your followers. This piece highlights some of the workarounds that would help you hide your followers on Instagram.

Changing your Instagram Account to Private

Instagram allows users to change their accounts to private. When an Instagram account is changed from public to private, the account information including posts and the following and followers list will only be visible to the people following you. To change your Instagram account to Private:

• Launch the Instagram app on your Android device

• While on the launch page, tap the profile icon located at the bottom right side of the screen

• While on your profile page, tap the three horizontal bars located at the top right side of the screen

• On the menu that appears, tap on Settings and privacy

• On the page that appears, scroll to find Account privacy. Tap on it.

• On the next page that appears, turn on the toggle button next to “Private account”

Blocking Individual Users on Instagram

If you wish to hide your Instagram followers from certain users, you can proceed to block them. Blocking people on Instagram means that they will not have any access to your Instagram profile, amongst other services. An earlier piece explains in detail how you can block someone on Instagram.

By following either of the two above-mentioned techniques, it is possible to hide your followers on Instagram to maintain a certain level of privacy.
