How to Find Someone on Telegram

Telegram, just like other social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp, you will need to find people to socialize with. By default, Telegram synchronizes the contacts on your device and displays them on the app.

However, some Telegram users may not be on your contact list and you would wish to find them and communicate with them on the Telegram app. This begs the question; how can you find someone on Telegram? The several ways in which you can find someone on Telegram are highlighted in this piece. In a previous related article, we discussed how to find someone on Instagram.

Finding People on Telegram Using Their Usernames

Apart from phone numbers, Telegram uses usernames to identify its users. Every Telegram user has a username that they identify with. If you know someone’s Telegram username or can identify their profile, you can use the search function available on the app to search for them.

If the username is unique, only the specific username will appear in the search results, otherwise, you will have to select the specific username that you wish from the list of search results that appear.

Finding Nearby People on Telegram

Telegram has an in-built feature called nearby people that allows its users to find other Telegram users that are close to their location. To use the nearby people feature on Telegram:

• Launch the Telegram app on your Android device

• Tap the three horizontal bars located at the top left side of the launch page

• On the menu that appears, tap on “Contacts”

• On the page that appears, tap “Find People Nearby”

• You will be redirected to the People Nearby page. Tap on “Allow Access” to allow Telegram to access your device’s location

• On the next page that appears, tap “Make Myself Visible”. A confirmatory message will appear, tap OK

• Telegram will now list other Telegram users that are near you

Finding People on Telegram Using Bots

It is common knowledge that Telegram has a lot of bots that perform various tasks within the app. If you wish to find someone on Telegram, you can use the Telegram Friends bot to find new friends.

To use the Telegram Friends bot:

• Search for the Telegram Friends Bot on your browser and navigate to its page

• Tap the Open button and allow the Instagram app to open the link

• You will be redirected to the Bot’s chat on the Telegram app

• Tap the START button located at the bottom of the page

• Follow the bot’s instructions as it will guide you on how to find new friends
