How to Send Anonymous Messages on WhatsApp

As a frequent WhatsApp user, you have at one point thought about sending an anonymous message to your friend as a prank or for other reasons. Well, in your quest to try sending anonymous messages on WhatsApp, you might have found that there is no straightforward way to send anonymous messages on the app.

Sending anonymous messages on WhatsApp is not easily possible because each WhatsApp account has to be registered using a working phone number. To send anonymous messages on WhatsApp would entail using an account that has not been registered using your details (phone number).

Even though there is no built-in feature that allows WhatsApp users to send anonymous messages, this piece highlights some workarounds that would allow people to send anonymous messages on WhatsApp. In a previous related article, we discussed how to hide your phone number on WhatsApp.

Using Virtual Phone Numbers

You can use virtual phone numbers to create WhatsApp accounts that do not have your details. There are various apps that allow users to generate phone numbers that can be used to verify apps like WhatsApp. With the virtual phone number, you can receive the SMS code that WhatsApp sends when opening an account.

When you open a WhatsApp account using a virtual phone number, the number is what will display when you send a message to another WhatsApp user. The recipient will receive the message but will never know who sent it.

Using a Landline

You can also create a WhatsApp account using a landline and use the account to send anonymous messages. When using a landline to create a WhatsApp account, instead of requesting an SMS code, opt for a call verification, where you will receive an automated call from WhatsApp and the verification code will be read out to you.

Proceed to create the WhatsApp account as you normally would. When you send a message using the account, the landline number will be visible to the recipient, but they won’t be able to know who sent the message.
