Prevent your Google Play Apps from automatically updating

Prevent your Google Play Apps from automatically updating

The longer you have your Android smartphone or tablet, the more apps and games you’ll find are appearing on your device. If you have a data plan you might dread the moment you see that notification saying an app is updating, followed by another and then another.

So while your favorite adventure game is up-to-date, this will clear out you data allowance (unless you’re connected to WiFi), slow down your device and prevent you from doing certain things. It’s can also just be plain annoying. The benefit, of course, is that your apps are generally updating because they’ve been improved somehow but even so it might be better to manually update them.

If you would like to disable auto updates for your apps then read on.

Disable Auto-Updates:

You’re going to want to open up the Google Play Store and select ‘Settings’. From there you’ll want to tap on ‘Auto-Update Apps’ and you’ll get a couple of different options. One is ‘Do not auto-update apps’ which is the one you’ll want to tap. From this point on none of your apps will ever automatically update meaning you’ll need to do this manually.

Manually Updating Apps:

If you ever want to update your apps simply open up the Google Play Store and open up the menu with all of the options to enter Settings and Account etc. You’ll see ‘My Apps’ somewhere on the list so tap that and you’ll see every app or game installed on your device. They’ll be separated into two categories, the top section will be all of your apps that need updating, followed by all of the ones that are up-to-date.

To update any simple tap on one which requires an update and select ‘update’. Repeat this for each app you want to update.

There you have it, the very simple way to stop your device from auto-updating your apps, just be sure to check them every once in awhile so you don’t miss out on a cool or major update.
