Coolest Facebook Messenger Tricks you might have missed!

Facebook is probably the most successful social network that has so far graced the Internet. It took off and is now one of the most widely used networks in the world. It has adapted and evolved since it’s invention though and Android users can take advantage of some of these adaptations.

The Facebook Messenger app for Android is a prime example of this. For many, it serves as a platform to send and receive messages however there is so much more to it than meets the eye. Keep on reading to discover some really cool Facebook Messenger tricks that you might have missed. Although some of this stuff will work on older versions, it’s highly recommended that you update your Facebook Messenger app to the latest version.

Mute Notifications for Your Conversations

We’ll start off small. We all have that one friend who while we enjoy chatting to them, can sometimes be a bit much. Okay, we might not enjoy talking to them much either, but we don’t have the heart to tell them that. Luckily there is a solution. To mute any conversation notifications you simply need to open up the Facebook Messenger app and hold down on the conversation which happens to be in need of some silence. You’ll get a menu appear with different options. You’ll want to press ‘Mute Notifications’ which will let you decide how long exactly you want to apply the mute. That’s it. Sorry Brian from school, you’ll have to message me again in…until I turn it back on…

Basketball

Now this one is really cool. You’ll need to update your version of the app if you haven’t done so already for it to work, though. Open up the app and choose someone you want to play basketball with. From there you simply need to send them the emoji of a basketball. Once you’ve sent it, just tap the basketball and you can start playing against each other. It’s not groundbreaking entertainment but it’s certainly a nice touch.

Voice Calls

A lot of people have probably figured this one out already, but just in case you didn’t know, the Facebook Messenger app also lets you call people. When you are in a conversation with someone, providing they also have the app installed on their device, you’ll see a little phone icon in the top right-hand corner. Tap this and away you go. Free phone calls, now you have no reason for your lack of communication!.

Big Thumbs Up

If your conversation has got to the point where you don’t really have a reply to say, you can send a thumbs up. That’s not the only reason to send one of course but it is one of them. On a chat window with someone you’ll notice the little blue thumb, if you press it then a little blue thumb will be sent to your friend. However, and here’s the important bit, if you hold down on the thumb instead of just press it, it’ll get bigger and bigger and you get the idea.

Complicated Chess

If you enjoy the odd game of chess, (The highly popular board game), then you might be better off just downloading a game that specializes in it. However if you’re eager to play with your friends then this little trick will help you out. Admittedly it is cool, I just don’t understand the ‘why’ behind it. So to start with you’ll need to send @fbchess to your friend from the app. That should bring up a chessboard and let your opponent start. You’ll need to know the code so feel free to note this down. K = King. Q = Queen. N = Knight. B = Bishop. R = Rook and finally, P = Pawn. For each turn you’ll need to say @fbchess and then the piece of position you want to move to. It sounds more complicated than it is but it might take some getting used to.
