5 of the Best Arcade Games for Android!
Back before the age of smartphones and Android tablets, a lot of people used to play games in an actual arcade. The migration onto our handheld devices has been a successful one, with some of the greatest games often those which are incredibly simple and allow us to pick-up-and-play as and when we want, without having to worry about an over-complicated story line.
The beauty of arcade games is their simple mechanics, with some of the most popular Android games being the likes of Angry Birds and Doodle Jump. These are two fine examples of arcade gaming at it’s finest (although nothing will quite beat the days of Tetris and Space Invaders!) Take a look at the 5 games below to discover some great games to switch off your mind too.
Smash Hit
Smash hit has been out a few years but it’s absolutely a must-play game for anyone. It’s kind of like an endless runner which plays nothing like an endless runner. The whole adventure is from a first-person view as you endlessly travel through different levels shooting glass. You’ll start with X amount of balls (which also double as your life so you need to be accurate with your throwing) which you need to smash different glass obstacles with. Successive hits will increase the balls you throw giving you a better chance of progression. It’s a great game with good visuals and a fantastic soundtrack.
Crossy Road
Cross Road was all the rage earlier this year so chances are you might have already played it. It’s got very similar mechanics to the classic ‘Frogger’ arcade game and prides itself with being addictive, visually attractive and a joy to play. The simple aim is to help your character cross busy roads and dodge obstacles. The further you get the better your score. It’s actually so simple that it’s brilliant and the fact that it has stunning pixel art really helps carry it.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog has to be one of the most successful games of its time, and even of today. Anyone who is into gaming will know of it and would have no doubt got frustrated at some point from running out of coins or struggling to find that bubble of air underwater. For those who for some reason aren’t aware of what the game is, I’ll explain. You play a hedgehog, called Sonic, and the basic principle is that you have to avoid enemies and collect coins to get to the end of the level while also fighting the notorious Dr. Eggman on occasion. It’s a fast-paced game which requires skill, patience and the ability to have fun.
Ridiculous Fishing
What can beat the feeling of sitting on a river-bank, the warm sun basking against your face as you patiently wait for a fish to grab you line? Well, the answer would be Ridiculous Fishing. And you can play it in the sun but without the hassle of waiting for fish…
The first aspect of the game requires you to drop your line and then tilt to avoid all of the fish on the way down, then on the way up you’ll want to try and catch as many of the little water creatures as you can. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Upon greeting the fish to the oxygen of fresh air, you’ll need to grab your gun and shoot the gills off of them! It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t require you to take it too seriously.
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions
Last on our list we have Geometry Wars 3. The incredibly popular Xbox 360 game comes to life on your Android device and isn’t a disappointment. It’s absolutely stunning to look at and is probably best enjoyed on a tablet as oppose to a smartphone. You control a drone that’s moving within a gorgeous 3D environment, avoiding the bullets (or lasers) of your enemies as you attempt to destroy them all. Each level requires you to earn a certain amount of points in order to progress and the difficulty increases throughout the game. Imagine an updated, beautiful-looking Space Invaders and you have a good idea of what to expect here.
