Useful tips to speed up your Android device!
Your device is probably one of the most important items you own. It goes everywhere with you, and chances are you upgrade it every couple of years too. The trouble starts when a brand new device starts to feel a little…sluggish. It slows down and things which used to take seconds, now take longer.
However, all is not lost. There is no need to format your Android or even shop it in for the next model. You can simply try a few of these tips to see if it helps speed things up. There is of course no guarantee these tips will work, and some deciding factors in the speed of a device include the RAM it has, the software it is running, the internal hardware etc etc. Take a look below and see if we can help improve the performance of your Android!
Restart Your Device
The first thing you should try to do, is as simple as restarting your Android. This can be done easily by holding down the power button for a few seconds and then tapping on “Restart”. This might not solve the issues, but restarting occasionally should definitely help your device take a little breather.
Uninstall Apps/Games
Over time, we tend to collect many useless apps and games that we used once and the just left on our devices. The trouble with this is that they take up and eat away at valuable storage space and RAM usage. To remedy this issue, simply navigate your way to your “Storage” options and then tap on any app that you no longer want on your device. From here you can just tap the “Uninstall” button to remove it from your device.
Deleting Cache
Cache is something which helps apps run more smoothly, and helps you transition from one to the other without having to wait ages for them to load up. However, this can actually cause your device to slow down if you are running low on space. For example, right now, my Facebook app has stored 122MB of cached data! Social apps tend to cache a lot of data, with Facebook being one of the worse. To delete cached data, follow the same steps as above, but rather than uninstalling the app, tap “Clear Cache” instead.
Disable Animations/Effects
Launchers that you install on your device to spruce it up and customize it, come with a down-side. They can severely drain your battery and also eat up a lot of precious storage space and RAM. If you don’t want to completely uninstall your launcher, then go into the settings of it and try to disable any animations and effects that you really don’t need.
Close Background Processes
If you open an app, and then open another app…and then another…your device will keep these running in the background. It means you can quickly switch between apps and your device doesn’t need to load every shred of the information up again. This can slow your device down though. To close these background apps, tap the home button, or tap the left hand button on your device, this will bring up a list of all of the apps you have open. To remove them, just slide them away. They’ll disappear and your device will free up RAM.
If after trying these steps, your device still runs really slow and is a pain to use, consider reformatting it. You’ll need to make sure you back up everything as your entire device will be erased and reset to factory settings.
