Everyone’s talking about all the cool new gestures that you can use to navigate the iPhone X. Believe me, Android is paying attention and while this feature isn’t available natively yet, Motorola, Huawei, and OnePlus, do offer gesture navigation of their own.

But, if you don’t own one of those phones, no problem! There are always other ways of doing things.

In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to easily add gesture navigation to your Android without having to root your device. There are a couple of things you need to do to set it all up. However, it’s nowhere near as involved as rooting your device.

Here’s a heads up before we begin…

This method is going to work better with phones where the navigation bar is integrated into the screen. If you have a phone with touch navigation buttons, it might work…or it might not. It depends on the phone model.

Using The Navigation Gestures App

First of all, download and install the free app, Navigation Gestures.  (Important! If you want to uninstall Navigation Gestures make sure you that disable navigation gestures first. In other words, make sure you revert to the standard navigation bar.)

Now you’ll need to use your PC to enable the app. Don’t worry. This isn’t difficult. You can follow the instructions here on how to install ADB. There’s also this handy video that will walk you through the process.

After you get ADB up and running, enter the following command:
adb shell pm grant com.xda.nobar android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Now go to the app and make sure that Gestures Enabled is on.

That’s it!

Granular Immersive Mode allows you to enjoy a larger screen and to hide both the navigation bar and the status bar. Quickly toggle using the widget. Does not run background services.
