How to Watch content from other countries on Netflix
Netflix is a fantastic streaming program where you can watch practically anything you could ever imagine. From Documentaries to AAA blockbusters, Netflix finds a way to have them all. That said, there is a difference between what you can access in the UK and the USA for example. While the UK tends to have quite a lot of decent TV shows to watch, they kind of get let down on the movie front (Anything good doesn’t hang around too long due to licensing issues).
However, it is possible to live in the UK and still browse and watch the Netflix catalog from the US. How this is done is relatively simple. Either via a handy download or by setting up a VPN to trick Netflix into thinking you are in whichever country you want to be in to watch the content. VPN means a Virtual Private Network.
Method One: Use a browser extension
This is probably the most popular method and it is easy to set up. By adding this browser extension, you’ll be able to add some enhanced privacy to your browsing habits as well as view Netflix from different countries.
- Download/Sign up for Hola. This is free but must be done on the browser you want to watch Netflix on.
- Once you are signed up, try to access your Netflix account. At this stage, everything should look identical to normal.
- You should find a little flame symbol (which is the Hola extension working its magic), click on this and select a different country.
- Refresh your page and you should see the content for the country you selected. Easy.
Method Two: Use a VPN
Now these can be a little trickier to implement but they offer better benefits than just browsing Netflix from abroad. You get complete privacy and security while one is active and you can access sites that might have been blocked by your ISP.
- First you need to do a bit of research on the best VPN providers out there. Most aren’t free (or the free ones are very limited.)
- Every site should have a guide on their site on how to integrate it into your network, so follow that and get yourself connected.
- Open Netflix and you’ll immediately be watching the content of the country your VPN is directing you too.
It’s slightly more complicated and it involves creating networks and adding server names or downloading software. The benefits of using a VPN is that there are loads of apps for Android devices to take full advantage of this. To save you searching here is a list of the top 5 VPN apps for Android.
It is worth noting that Netflix recently announced that they will be doing everything they can to prevent users watching content from other countries using VPN’s. This is mainly down to licensing rights within different countries. That doesn’t mean you won’t be able to access Netflix right now with a VPN, and using a VPN to browse is worth doing regardless of whether you’re trying to view Netflix or not.
