How to Disable Reaction Notifications on WhatsApp

Image 2: How to Disable Reaction Notifications on WhatsApp

The newest feature on WhatsApp is the reaction feature. You can now react to WhatsApp messages with emojis, the same way you can react to Facebook posts using several emojis. The reaction feature was introduced as a quick reaction function to WhatsApp messages.

Instead of replying to a WhatsApp message using text or looking for an emoji or sticker to reply to the message, you can use the available reaction emojis to reply. If you are still not familiar with the reaction feature on WhatsApp, there is a previous article describing what it is and how it works.

When someone reacts to a WhatsApp message you sent earlier, you will receive a notification similar to that of receiving a message. However, the sent reaction will be pinned on the message you sent and will not appear as a new message. Sometimes, reaction notifications may be annoying, especially when used in group chats.

WhatsApp has an in-built feature that allows its users to disable reaction notifications. You can disable reaction notifications for individual and also group chats. By disabling reaction notifications, you will not get notified when someone reacts to a WhatsApp message you sent. This piece highlights how you can disable reaction notifications on WhatsApp.

To disable reaction notifications on WhatsApp:

  • Update the WhatsApp app to the latest version
  • Launch the latest version of WhatsApp by tapping on its icon
  • While on the launch page, tap the three vertical dots located at the top right side of the screen
  • On the menu that appears, tap on settings
  • On the Settings page that appears, tap Notifications
  • Scroll down to find “Reaction Notifications”. Tap the toggle button next to it to turn it off

  • You will no longer receive reaction notifications.
