How to Post Longer Videos on Instagram
In the dynamic world of social media, Instagram stands out as a platform that continually evolves to meet the needs of its users. Initially known for its photo-sharing capabilities, Instagram has expanded its features to accommodate videos, stories, and live streams. However, one common challenge many users face is the limitation on video length.
While Instagram is an excellent platform for sharing short, engaging clips, sometimes a longer format is necessary to convey a complete message, showcase an event, or share detailed content. Fortunately, there are several methods available to post longer videos on Instagram. This article discusses the methods that you would use to post longer videos on Instagram.
Using Instagram Stories
Instagram Stories allow you to post videos up to 15 seconds long, but you can string multiple clips together to create a longer narrative. Here’s how:
- Open the Instagram app and swipe right to access the Story camera.
- Either record a new video or swipe up to upload a video from your gallery.
- If your video is longer than 15 seconds, Instagram will automatically split it into 15-second segments.
- Ensure each segment flows seamlessly into the next to maintain continuity.
- Once your video is split into segments, you can add stickers, text, or filters to each part.
- Tap on “Your Story” to post your segmented video.
Using Instagram Live
Instagram Live allows users to broadcast live videos for up to 4 hours, which can then be saved and shared:
- Open the Instagram app and swipe right to access the Story camera.
- Tap on “Live” at the bottom of the screen and then tap the circular button to start broadcasting.
- Interact with your viewers in real-time by responding to comments and questions.
- After ending the live broadcast, you can save the video to your camera roll or share it directly to your IGTV (rebranded as “Instagram Video”) and feed.
Using Instagram Feed Videos
For users who want to post longer videos directly to their feed, Instagram allows videos up to 60 seconds. However, you can use the carousel feature to post multiple 60-second video clips in a single post. In a previous related article, we discussed how to make Instagram carousel posts on Android.
Using Instagram Reels
Instagram Reels is another feature that supports longer videos, with a maximum length of 90 seconds:
- Open the Instagram app and tap the plus (+) icon.
- Select “Reel” from the options.
- Record a new video or upload an existing one from your gallery.
- Use the editing tools to trim, add music, text, and effects.
- Once satisfied with the edits, tap “Next” to add a caption, hashtags, and choose a cover image.
- Tap “Share” to post your Reel.
