How To Know If My TikTok Account Is Hacked And How To Fix It
Because of the many accounts that people have online, cybercrime is on the rise across the globe. Hackers are every day trying to access information from people’s online accounts including social media platforms. For instance, if you have a TikTok account that has a great profile, you may be at risk of being hacked.
If by any chance while using your TikTok account, you notice some suspicious behavior like some videos have been added or deleted or added without your knowledge, or some messages have been sent without your permission, then most likely than not, you have been hacked. The worst-case scenario is that you no longer have access to your TikTok account because your password has been changed. A previous article discussed how you would protect and secure your Instagram account from hacking.
How to Recover a Hacked TikTok Account
If you suspect that your TikTok account has been hacked, there are several measures you can take to try and recover it. However, recovering your TikTok account depends on whether you still have access or not.
If you think you have been hacked and still have access to your TikTok account, you can reset your password to a stronger one.
To reset your TikTok account password:
- Launch the TikTok app by tapping on its icon
- Tap the profile icon located at the bottom right side of the launch screen
- While on the profile page, tap the three horizontal bars located at the top right side of the screen
- On the menu that appears, tap Settings and privacy
- Tap “Manage account” on the page that appears
- Under the Manage account menu, tap Password
- Enter your old password in the field provided, then type in the new password that you wish to use and confirm it
- Your account will now be accessible using the new password.
After resetting your password, you can close any active sessions on other devices that might be in use. To do this:
- Tap the profile icon on your TikTok account
- Navigate to the “Settings and privacy” page by tapping the three horizontal bars on the profile page
- Tap “Security and login”
- On the next page that appears, tap “Manage devices”
- A list of all devices that are logged in to your TikTok account will be listed
- Tap on the device that you want to remove, and tap the “Remove” button to confirm the process.
How to Recover your TikTok Account if your Password has been Changed
If the hacker has managed to lock you out of your account by changing your password, you still have a chance to recover your account using your email or phone number. However, you need to have linked your account with your email or phone number before it was hacked.
To recover your account:
- Launch the TikTok app on your device
- While on the sign-up page, tap the “log in” button that appears at the bottom of the page
- Select the “Use phone/email/username” option
- On the log in page that appears, tap Forgot password
- Select the password reset method that you prefer; email or phone number
- Enter your email address or phone number that is linked to your account. If you use your email address, check your inbox for a password recovery link. If you used your phone number, wait for a text message containing a password reset code.
If you haven’t linked your TikTok account to your email or phone number, you can still contact TikTok support and present your case. You may get your account back after confirming your identity.
