How to Uninstall or Freeze Pre-installed Apps on Android

remove-android-bloatwareUsually, your dream smartphone comes with quite a few apps (also known as bloatware) which have been pre-installed by your manufacturer or your carrier.

This would not be such a tragedy if these apps were not completely useless most of the time. They take up precious memory space, run in the background without you noticing or drain your battery faster, and… they are unremovable.

Or are they?

Of course not! Everything is possible. Especially when it comes to technology.

Although, we must admit the manufacturers did not make it easy. In any case, this short tutorial will show you how to get rid of them once and for all!

How to Uninstall Bloatware on Android (Rooted Devices)

1. First of all, you need to root your Android. If you are rooted move on to the next step, if not, check out our tutorial on how to root your Android device. But beware, rooting your device will automatically cancel your warranty claim.

2. Backup your phone or tablet before starting to remove the pre-installed apps. This can be quite risky and can get you in trouble if you make a wrong move, so don’t leave it to chance! To backup, you can choose among some 3rd party backup apps such as Titanium Backup which, although a bit pricey, is really a titan and often considered a must-have for root-users. Or, alternatively, you can go for some of the less pricey or free backup options like App Backup & Restore.

3. Next, install an app designed to remove the bloatware such as System app remover (ROOT) or Easy Uninstaller and carefully follow the instructions given to you. If you have installed Titanium Backup Pro, you can uninstall the apps directly from there.

How to Freeze Pre-installed Apps (All Devices)

freeze-android-appsIf you are not quite sure you want to delete the pre-installed apps, there is another option: Freezing the apps.

Freezing will remove the apps from your interface and disable them completely (which means they will not start automatically or run in the background). However, they will still take up space in your storage as you can unfreeze and use them at any time.

Again, if you downloaded Titanium Backup Pro, you will have the choice to uninstall or freeze your system apps. Alternatively, you can download quite popular Disable Service or before mentioned Easy Uninstaller.

Now you can start enjoying your Android free of useless apps!
