How to recover your deleted text messages on your Android phone

No matter what kind of lifestyle you have, regardless of your financial situation or position in life, there will always be that dreaded moment in life where you’ll accidentally (or deliberately) delete your text messages. This can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you come to look for some particular piece of information you’ve deleted.
However, fear not, as there are some tools at your disposal which you can use to retrieve these treasure troves of your personal life. The downside is that most of these tools aren’t free, in fact a lot of them are rather expensive. That said, you can get free trials of different pieces of software which you can install on your computer.
The other downside, which isn’t financial, is that you need to ROOT your device before you can restore deleted content (this includes SMS, contacts, photos and virtually anything else you can think of.
So to get started, the first thing you’ll want to do is ROOT your Android. A Google search can explain how to do this in a lot of detail. After that, you’ll want to download and install some software on your computer. You can search for this on Google too, but a few suggestions we have are:
- MobiKin Doctor (Has a FREE trial)
There are of course many others you could consider, and it’s worth doing your research if you’d rather find a free one to use. So once you’ve installed one of those to your computer, attach your rooted Android device (via a USB cable) and follow the instructions. They will be different depending on what software you use, but a general outline would involve something like…
- Make sure your have USB debugging enabled on your device. Open the “Settings” –> “Device Information” –> Tap “Build Number” multiple times, very quickly and then enter the developer options. From here you can check the box for “USB Debugging”.
- Then open or run the software you installed and follow the step-by-step instructions it will give you. This will scan your device and determine all of the information and memory on it.
- You should be shown a screen resembling the content or data stored on your Android. This might be just a preview, or it’ll show you everything. Providing you haven’t overwritten a particular part of the used memory where the data is stored, you’ll be able to access everything.
- Now to retrieve your deleted text messages, simply find a folder that says “SMS” or “Text Messages” and find the message you want. Then simply press “Retrieve” or “Restore”.
That’s all there is to it. It is a bit more complicated if you have to ROOT your Android beforehand, as this can sometimes be a confusing procedure for someone who hasn’t ever heard of it before. If you’re device is already rooted though then the process is very smooth and easy.
