How to activate Night Mode to Reduce Eye Strain

People spend a lot of time looking at devices. Whether that is tablets, smartphones, TVs or computers, we spend a lot of time glued to a screen. The trouble to this (other than the potential lack of social interaction you may be experiencing) is something called blue light. This notorious little fragment of color isn’t necessarily a friend you want to invite over for dinner.

All devices emit something called blue light. This is a shade which can cause eye strain and disrupt your sleeping pattern. The blue light prevents the release of a natural sleep hormone which can make it difficult to get a good nights rest. This can lead to poor health as well as a constant feeling of lethargy, especially in the earlier parts of the day. To counter this, we’re going to tell you how you can reduce the effects of this blue light.

Now a lot of devices are being designed with a feature pre-built into them called ‘Night Light‘ (or something similar) and this basically wraps your screen in a very soothing rose tint. The shade is designed to be calming on your eyes and will make it a lot easier to relax at night. If your device already has this feature then you simply need to navigate over to your “Settings” and find the option for night light. Once you’ve activated this tool you may need a minute or two to let your eyes get used to the new color, but after that you’ll find it very calming and beneficial.

If your device doesn’t come with this feature then don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. The Play Store is seeing the number of blue light filter apps being released increasing and to save you searching through a load, check below for one which is very good at what it does.

The Bluelight Filter for Eye Care app is designed for the sole purpose of reducing your eye strain and taking away that harshness during the evening. It comes with a couple of features, such as being able to set specific times of the day for it to begin working, as well as offering you a few different color tones to choose from. It’s not as good as a pre-built feature into your device but as far as the alternative (not doing anything about blue light at all) this app is a gem in the rough.
