What is Facebook Watch? New video platform to battle YouTube
Facebook are unveiling a brand new feature which is set to rival or battle with YouTube. It’s a simple idea which is executed right could be hugely successful. The premise is that you can use Facebook, or Facebook Watch as it is called, to discover and watch an array of popular shows either in real-time or recorded in advance.
Facebook has evolved and adapted heavily over the last few years, whereas it used to revolve around posting a status, uploading the odd photo and communicating with our friends, it now has a huge media or video outlet which you’ll find plastered all over when scrolling through the app.
The Facebook Watch platform itself provides personalized suggestions to different shows that are either up-and-coming or well-known shows that you can catch-up on or even add to a “Watchlist” so that you’ll never fall behind on your favorite show.
Another aspect of Facebook Watch is that the suggestions can be organized around what your friends are into as-well. For example, if you are part of a community or if a lot of your friends are talking about a particular show, this will appear under a “Most Talked About” section. There are also different categories which include suggestions based on what friends are watching or things which are comical.
You’ll also be able to comment and interact with different shows as you watch them which helps keep the social-side of Facebook intact.
The feature isn’t being rolled-out worldwide just yet so you’ll have to wait to see if you are part of the limited selection of US users, with the idea that everyone will slowly get access to it over time.
So keep your ears and eyes posted, make sure you have the latest version of Facebook and eventually enjoy the endless possibilities that Facebook Watch will offer, especially over the next year or so as it evolves and grows into something YouTube would be envious of…
