Do not accept video calls from unknown numbers
Receiving video calls from unknown numbers can be an avenue for harassment. Unethical WhatsApp users can get your number and decide to video call you just to harass you. It is advisable not to receive video calls from unknown numbers.
Cover the camera at the start of a video call
If you are not sure of the number calling you but still wish to answer the call, it is advisable to cover your camera with your finger for a few seconds until you ascertain that the call is secure.
Show only your profile information to your contacts
The WhatsApp app allows you to configure your privacy settings. You can choose who can see your profile information. To avoid unknown people from seeing your profile information, it is advisable to only allow people with your number or only those that are in your contact list to view your profile.
Avoid being automatically added to groups
WhatsApp has a privacy setting that allows you to choose the people that can add you to groups. To avoid being added to groups that you do not want, you can change the group privacy settings to only allow people in your contact list to add you to new groups.
Avoid accepting unknown international calls
WhatsApp voice and video calls have eased international communication over the years. However, some unethical WhatsApp users can get ahold of your number and call you just to harass you. Unless you know the international number that is calling you, it is better if you don’t answer at all.
