Leave a WhatsApp & Facebook Messenger group conversation without anyone noticing

I’m sure that we’ve all had this experience. Someone adds us to a Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp group without asking. If we leave, everyone will notice! However, we sure don’t want to stay either! So, is there a solution to this common dilemma?

There is! And it’s a pretty sneaky trick called…ignoring it!

Yep. All we need to do is ignore the group. You see, just as we can ignore individuals..we can also ignore groups.  You are still technically in the group. However, you don’t see the group or receive notifications from it. For all intents and purposes…it doesn’t exist. Here’s how you ignore a group on Facebook Messenger:

Tap on the little “i” in the upper right of your screen:

Scroll down and tap on Ignore:

How to ignore a group on WhatsApp

The best way to ”leave” a WhatsApp group is simply ”mute” the group. When you do that you will no longer receive notifications. It will be as if the group never existed! Here’s how you do that:

Open the group you want to mute.

Tap Options > Mute.

You’ll see some options regarding how long you want to mute the group. If you really serious about ”leaving” the group, tap 1 Year…to mute the group ”forever”.

Now make sure you uncheck the box that says Show Notifications.
