How to make Instagram video calls
Ahh…good ol’ Instagram. It’s grown a lot over the years and is now a force to be reckoned with. Valuations put it in the region of $100 billion, which is pretty good going for a company which Facebook purchased for less than $1 billion. The app itself lets you share photos to people all over the world. You’re not restricted to certain friends being able to see what you share, which opens up the avenue to reach a lot of people.
Instagram teased that they were going to implement a way of having video calls from within the app. This seems like natural progression for an app owned by Facebook (who also own WhatsApp). Both of which allow you to make video calls, so adding this feature to Instagram was only a matter of time.
One of the great things about it is that while you may be limited to a max of a 4-way video chat, you can still scroll through the content meaning if you and your friends wanted, you could browse together while being in a call.
So how do you access this amazing new feature?
It’s very, very simple. All you have to do is:
- Update Instagram to the latest version of the app.
- Launch the app.
- Tap on the airplane icon in the top right hand corner.
- Tap on the video symbol.
- Tap on the contacts you want to chat with.
And that’s all there is to it. You can only choose up to three other users (with you making number four) but let’s be honest, a video chat with more people than that can get pretty chaotic very quickly. We feel four is an adequate number that allows you to chat while not overwhelming you with voices and conversations.

Make sure you update to the latest version of Instagram so you can take advantage of the brand new features. The main one is the ability to use the social platform as a means of video calling, although the new update also brings with it new effects you can apply to your stories. Get the app, master your photo skills and show the world what you have!
