Google Play adds a new Teacher Approved section
To ensure that there is children-friendly content on Google Play, Google has added a new Teacher Approved section. The new section simplifies the search done by parents and guardians looking for quality educational and social content for their young ones.
From an earlier survey, Google Inc. states that many parents and guardians found it difficult to get the right content for children in Google Play. For this reason, Google Inc. began the launch of the Teacher Approved section. Academic experts like Dr. Sandra Calvert (Georgetown University) and Joe Blatt (Harvard Graduate School of Education) were hired to create the foundation for the ranking of the apps that were to be added to the new section.
Reviewers, including more than two hundred teachers, have to review apps before they are posted in this new section. The apps have to comply with certain Google-issued requirements. Also, the apps that make it to the new section have to meet the state requirements related to advertising targeting and data collection. Lastly, if any apps in the section are supported by advertising, the types of advertisements shown to children must be limited.
The launch of the new Teacher Approved section comes at a time when children across the globe are not attending school due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The availability of children-friendly content on Google Play has supplemented the educational activities of children.
The new section can be accessed via the Kids tab on Google Play. The section is already available in the US and will be rolled out in other parts of the world in a few months. If you have problems accessing Google Play, here is how you can solve it.
